Check out how Hammer and Depp meet for the first time, in this new trailer for The Lone Ranger, Disney’s new action-adventure written, produced and directed by the Pirates Of The Caribbean team.
Before the trailers I expected it to be a throwback to classic westerns, with long drawn-out shots, and guitar-based music, but this looks like any other modern CGI-heavy action film.
The trailer begins with a disheveled Armie Hammer on a large action set-piece. He then moves on to meet Johnny Depp’s native American character Tonto, who explains how he is the only survivor among his fellow Texan Rangers. Depp has his wackiness in full-throttle, with having a crow on his head, to claiming to speak with horses. The trailer then skims through the next chain of events, which is pretty predictable. Hammer, who is now presumed dead, adopts a mask, and Tonto joins him as his sidekick, and together they set out to fight injustice in the Wild West. The trailer ends with a special effects-laden action sequence involving trains, that doesn’t look very convincing. There’s also a shot of Helena Bonham Carter looking sexy, although I have no idea what she’s doing here.
I don’t see how this movie will be able to make a mark next year, but then again, the first Pirates Of The Caribbean movie was also expected to fail. This trailer didn’t grab my interest, but I would love to be wrong.
The Lone Ranger releases on July 3, 2013 and stars Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson, and Helena Bonham Carter.
