After several reports of production delays, and rift between director Marc Foster and Brad Pitt, fans of the book who have been excited for the movie finally have some positive news. Here’s the first trailer for World War Z, the upcoming post-apocalyptic movie based on the best-selling book of the same name by Max Brooks.
My fist thought after watching the trailer was, “Bwooooom!” My second thought was, “Why are they afraid of the CGI zombies?”
The plot looks similar to many apocalyptic movies we’ve seen before. The little girl is the generic “cute daughter” trope that’s present in movies like 2012, and War Of The Worlds. The story beats glimpsed in the trailer look disappointingly familiar. The novel was praised for its unique and comprehensive take on the genre, and it looks like the movie might not be able to live up to it, or even share more than surface similarities.
Despite your thoughts on the film, you can’t deny the fact that this is the most epic scale zombies have ever been portrayed on. I believe the CGI will eventually get better, and we’ll get a fair amount of zombie-related action. The movie certainly isn’t holding back on the action, if the massive zombie-tower at the end of the trailer is any indication.
World War Z releases on June 21, 2013, and stars Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, Matthew Fox, and David Morse.
