After their parents were murdered, sisters Victoria (Megan Charpentier) and Lily (Isabelle Nelisse) disappeared into the woods. Since their disappearance their Uncle Lucas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Game of Thrones) and his girlfriend Annabel (Jessica Chastain, The Help) have been frantically looking for them. So, they are relieved when the girls are found five years later in a decrepit cabin in the woods. No one knows how they survived on their own that long, but they have become wild during the process and have to be held for evaluations.
Once the couple is allowed to bring them home, Annabel is convinced that they brought home more than the girls. Is their house now haunted by an evil spirit that is following the little girls or is it a mere manifestation of Victoria and Lily’s psyche?
This movie is being by produced by supernatural thriller mastermind Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Orphanage). It was directed by Andres Muschietti, which is his directorial debut for a big-production film. The screenplay was based on his former short story of the same name and was co-written by Barbara Muschietti and Neil Cross.

The Good Stuff?
I know Del Toro did not personally direct this or write it, but I feel that with his stamp of approval it is a horror movie worth watching. I highly recommend to anyone that has not seen Pan’s Labyrinth or The Orphanage, which are just two of many, to do so as soon as humanly possible. I do wonder if the film did not use creepy kids would he still have produced it.
The Bad Stuff?
Creepy kids are just downright disturbing. I do not know why, but they bother me in a horror movie more than anything else. Anyone else feel the same way?
