Ashley November 13, 2012 1

An updated story on the popular character Jack Ryan. This time around the movie will focus on a younger Jack as he uncovers a financial terrorist plot, and how he ends up in the CIA.

Jack Ryan

An adaptation of the popular character created by bestselling author Tom Clancy. Kenneth Branagh (Thor, My Week with Marilyn) is directing as well as playing the villain. The plot is an original story Adam Cozad that was redrafted by David Koepp (Premium Rush, Angels & Demons). Additional work on the screenplay came from Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes), and Steven Zaillian (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).

Chris Pine, who has been signed on to play the character since 2009, will be the fourth actor to play him. The list includes Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck. This time around Paramount and Skydance Productions are seeking to turn the franchise into a trilogy. This adaptation will be an updated prequel to the previous films, and will follow a younger Jack Ryan before he joined the CIA.

Kevin Costner is playing the made up role of CIA liason in the film. The character will also be used in a spin-off movie titled Without Remorse that will be about fellow spy John Clark. Currently, Tom Hardy is being pursued for the lead, and it is confirmed that Christopher McQuarrie will be directing.

This movie will open alongside Universal’s samurai adventure 47 Ronin starring Keanu Reeves and 20th Century Fox’s reboot of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty starring Ben Stiller.

The Good Stuff?

Everything about this movie looks great. The writers, director, and actors are all phenomenal. I liked Thor all though I was not blown away by it, but Branagh is an amazing director as he is an actor. I think Pine is a good enough actor to take on the role, and Knightley is always brilliant. Looking forward to seeing Kevin Costner play his character in this movie and the spin-off.

The Bad Stuff?

Not really a fan of the earlier movies especially Sum of All Fears. So, this movie might change my outlook.
